·
A caesarean is a major surgery
·
Hurts post-surgery to the point of we
may feel we can’t do anything on our own
·
Hurts to cough or laugh. Support wound
with hands or pillow over stomach
·
Small movements such as shifting off
the bed will need assistance
·
Eat and drink as soon as
you feel hungry or thirsty. Drink plenty and eat fibre-rich
foods to help prevent constipation
·
Wear loose clothes and
cotton underwear (a size bigger)
·
Wash and dry wound every day. Can have
shower or bath and use soap on the wound, but must rinse properly.
·
Change maternity pad often
·
Usually have to stay in hospital for
3-4 days
·
Don’t lift anything heavy, including
toddler
·
Avoid movements that involves
stretching upwards
·
Vacuuming and other strenuous house
work is off limits
·
Post-surgery pain can be felt up to 6
months
·
Turning and twisting might be painful
and feel awkward, therefore up to 6 weeks after caesarean driving is not
recommended
·
Light postnatal exercises can start
the day after operation. Can help to speed up physical recovery. Light/gentle
exercises are such as walking, pelvic floor or abdominal exercises – beneficial
and will help in recovery.
·
Strenuous exercise can start after 8 –
10 weeks after operation
·
Jogging, swimming or cycling – start
slowly, and build up gradually, begin with 10 – 15 mins
